Creating Together, Apart

Before March 2020 and COVID-19, each week YAU teaching artists would visit the girls housed at GVRC, Genesee County’s youth detention center, and together they would unlock their unique stories through dance, art, yoga and spoken word poetry. Since GVRC was closed to outside visitors due to the pandemic, they have continued to create together but now they are connecting over Zoom, with videos, and through paper and pen.

Creating Together, Apart – is a virtual exhibition of the creative works of girls detained at GVRC prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic.
