Bringing art to justice involved youth, and their work to the public.

YOUTH ARTS: UNLOCKED (previously The Buckham/GVRC Share Art Project) brings artists and arts workshops to justice-involved youth in Flint and Genesee County.

Our goal is to introduce artistic concepts and techniques as a means of CONNECTING, EXPRESSING, LEARNING, AND DISCOVERY. We began with a 12-week pilot project in the fall of 2011 and currently offer weekly workshops in the visual arts, Spoken Word poetry, theatre, and dance. Workshops are held at Genesee County’s youth detention facility, GVRC, and at GearUp Academy.

A separate gender-based series of workshops: HERSTORY: UNLOCKED addresses the unmet needs of young female residents through writing, visual arts, dance, and yoga workshops.

Each year we bring the artwork created in our workshops to the public in our “Arts in Detention” exhibits and in books and videos available on our website.

Help bring art
to these kids!
